More than 20 passenger flights in Europe received bomb threats this week, but it is too early to say whether the incidents are connected, EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas said on Thursday.
No explosives had been found in the incidents, according to a report by Dutch news agency ANP. National authorities are investigating the threats.
Tzitzikostas said the European Commission was monitoring the situation and was in contact with affected EU countries and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. He urged national authorities to work with airports, airlines and law-enforcement agencies on the investigations and appropriate aviation security measures.
“Every threat against civilians is unacceptable,” he said, adding that protecting their safety and security remained a priority.
