Former French president François Hollande has left open a possible return in 2027, but says he would run only if he thought he could win.

Hollande told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he had not decided whether to run in France’s 2027 presidential election, ANP reported on 28 September. He said he would stand only if he believed he could win, and would consider doing so only in exceptional circumstances. [1]
The 72-year-old Socialist was president from 2012 to 2017, before Emmanuel Macron. Macron cannot stand in the next election after serving two terms. [1]
Hollande has not entered the joint primary organised by his Socialist Party and other centre-left parties. He said he would support its nominee if that candidate had a realistic chance of winning the presidency. [1]
