Finance Minister Eelco Heinen says he expects the Dutch government’s revised tax plan to win support in the House of Representatives, but the minority cabinet still does not know whether it can secure backing in both chambers of parliament.
Heinen spoke on Tuesday before an extra cabinet meeting to discuss the revised plan. The government changed its earlier proposal after criticism from opposition parties and divisions within the governing coalition. He said the cabinet had incorporated the House’s requests, while describing the process of finding compromises as difficult.
The revision reportedly includes a one-year delay to the proposed tax on investment gains in box 3, which covers savings and investments. The government has not secured a majority in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.
