Great Britain won two gold medals on day two of the 2026 Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, as the women took the team pursuit title and Matthew Bostock claimed his first world championship crown in the men’s scratch race. [1]
Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Josie Knight and Millie Couzens came from behind to beat defending world champions Italy by more than five seconds in the team pursuit final. Bostock made his move halfway through the scratch race and held on to win.
Britain also earned bronze in the men’s team pursuit. Henry Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Ethan Vernon and Ollie Wood beat France in the bronze-medal ride-off. Bostock, 29, also received a bronze for riding in an earlier round of the event. Denmark beat Italy in the gold-medal race to claim a fourth consecutive title. [1]
Sophie Capewell advanced to the women’s sprint semi-finals, where she was to be joined by team-mate Emma Finucane. Capewell had beaten China’s Jiang Yulu twice in their best-of-three quarter-final. Finucane, a two-time world champion in the event, was seeking a third title. [1]
The championships began amid attention on Matt Richardson’s withdrawal from the British squad. British Cycling confirmed his removal but did not give a reason. Richardson said he would co-operate with the governing body’s investigation into misconduct allegations. [1]
