Three MEPs say moving asylum seekers still in Ceuta to mainland Spain is needed to ease what they describe as a humanitarian crisis.

Three MEPs from the Greens and the Left Group called on 30 September for asylum seekers still in Ceuta to be moved to mainland Spain as quickly as possible. Speaking after a visit to the Spanish enclave, they said a transfer was needed to end what they described as a humanitarian crisis and argued that political will was lacking, including at the European Commission. ANP reported that tens of thousands of people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta in late July. Spanish Green MEP Mélissa Camera said she believed the Commission feared that people moved to mainland Spain would travel on to other European countries. She alleged that it was pressuring Spain to prevent the transfers. [1]
