Russian police searched the Moscow home of Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov and took him for questioning on Thursday. The newspaper later reported that he left the investigative department as a witness and returned to its newsroom, clarifying that he had not remained in custody. [1] [2]
Novaya Gazeta said Sokolov was questioned in connection with a case involving its journalist Oleg Roldugin. The paper said Sokolov could not discuss the questioning or investigative steps because he had signed a non-disclosure undertaking. [1]
Novaya Gazeta Europe reported that the search was linked to a criminal case being prepared against Roldugin, who was arrested in April on suspicion of unlawfully accessing computerised information. It said details of the allegations against him had not been made public. [2]
