Hundreds of people joined a pro-Palestinian march through central Leiden on Saturday, 26 September. About 300 had gathered at Lammermarkt by 14:00, and the procession set off around 15:00, ANP reported. That figure was a count before the march began, not a final turnout. [1]
The marchers called for boycotts of Israeli companies and of businesses they accused of complicity in the occupation of Gaza and violence against Palestinians. The Leiden Palestina Coalitie, which helped organise the event, said it wanted to build support for boycotts, divestment and sanctions. ANP reported that more than 30 organisations were involved. Ahead of the march, Leiden’s municipality said the mayor had banned a far-right counter-protest because of a threat of violence. Bus operator Qbuzz adjusted services between 14:00 and 19:00 as a precaution. [2]
The procession was due to return to Lammermarkt via Breestraat, with the demonstration scheduled to finish at 19:00. [1]
