Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill has announced his retirement after 56 years with the band, according to Dutch news site Nieuws.nl, which says he posted the news on Instagram on Friday. [1]
Hill, 74, said he had experienced arthritis in recent years and had torn a tendon in his shoulder, the site reports. He had played the bass parts for a forthcoming Judas Priest album, but was uncertain whether he could perform on tour without problems. Davey Rimmer of Uriah Heep had already stood in for him at a show. [1]
Hill said specialists had told him he might not need surgery, but he had no guarantee he would have enough strength to play a full show. Nieuws.nl reports that Judas Priest will continue, with Rimmer replacing Hill on bass. [1]
