Haley Stevens, who lost Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, has endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers, making their political split explicit.

Democratic US representative Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for a Michigan Senate seat, breaking with Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated her in the Democratic primary.
Stevens appeared with Rogers at a church on Sunday and told reporters after the service: “I’m here now with the person I’m going to vote for for the US Senate: Mike Rogers.”
The endorsement carries added significance because many Black voters supported Stevens in the primary, and the church where she appeared with Rogers has a majority-Black congregation, the Associated Press reported.
El-Sayed has sought to win over Black voters since his primary victory. Former president Barack Obama backed that effort with a speech at a campaign rally over the weekend. El-Sayed, who advocates strongly for Palestinian rights and opposes Israel, has criticised Stevens for her pro-Israel positions.
