Stewart’s top-10 finish earned him a Spanish Open place, but the event clashes with a chance to secure a Challenge Tour card.

Michael Stewart finished joint fourth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday, earning a place in the following week’s Spanish Open — and facing a clash with another event important to his season. The 36-year-old Scot, ranked world number 979 by BBC Sport, finished on 17 under par alongside Tommy Fleetwood. Adrian Meronk won on 20 under, with Casey Jarvis and Niklas Norgaard on 18 under. [1]
Stewart had missed the cut in all five of his previous DP World Tour appearances, according to the BBC. Four days before his Dunhill Links finish, he earned £2,500 as runner-up at a Tartan Pro Tour event near Edinburgh. BBC Sport put his Dunhill Links earnings at nearly 100 times that amount. Stewart described it as the best week of his career and said it gave him more belief that he could compete at this level. [1]
The Spanish Open clashes with the Gleneagles Masters, the Tartan Pro Tour finale. Stewart said he preferred to play at Gleneagles and try to protect his second place in the tour standings, which the BBC says would qualify him for next year’s second-tier Challenge Tour. He said securing that card had been his goal since the start of the year. [1]
