Manchester City have won their first five Women’s Super League matches but drawn twice in Europe, with injuries adding to the challenge of competing on both fronts.

Manchester City have won all five of their opening Women’s Super League matches while remaining unbeaten in the Champions League, an encouraging start to their defence of a league title won for the first time in a decade. Their two European matches have both ended level: City recovered from 2–0 down against Bayern Munich and came from behind to draw 1–1 with Real Madrid. Manager Andree Jeglertz called the two-point European start good, though not ideal, and said his side were still looking for a strong performance across a full 90 minutes. [1]
Jeglertz has not named the same starting XI twice. City kept most of last season’s title-winning squad and made three summer signings. Substitute Kerstin Casparij put them ahead in the 63rd minute of a 4–2 win over Arsenal. Ten of City’s 16 league goals have come in the second half, including three in stoppage time, while they have gained six points from losing positions – more than any other WSL side at this stage. [1]
City still have four Champions League league-phase matches to play. BBC Sport reported that Vivianne Miedema, Sydney Lohmann, Rebecca Knaak and Risa Shimizu were recovering from injury, while Sam Coffey had picked up a knock against Arsenal. Casparij said the team’s substitutes had made a difference, but cautioned that nothing had yet been won. [1]
