Allison Williams has described her time on *Girls* as one of the most important experiences of her life, after learning the HBO series had been named among The New York Times’ ten best television shows of the 21st century.
“I paused for a moment when I saw it,” Williams told *The Hollywood Reporter*. She said it was striking that a series with such personal meaning to her was also appreciated by people she did not know. “That the series is also in the top ten is astonishing.” [1]
Williams played Marnie Michaels in *Girls*, which ran on HBO from 2012 to 2017 and followed four young women finding their way in New York. Lena Dunham created the series and starred in it.
The recognition comes as *Girls* is set to return with a five-episode follow-up, announced on Thursday. Dunham, Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet are among those returning. Williams said she had seen Dunham on the Saturday before the announcement and that she was always ready to take part when Dunham asked. [1]
