Greece international Vangelis Pavlidis said at a press conference in Thessaloniki on Wednesday that he was not surprised by former AZ team-mate Mexx Meerdink’s progress with the Netherlands. Pavlidis said Meerdink had impressed him in training at AZ and pointed to his Youth League win as another sign of his potential. He praised Meerdink’s development and said he hoped it would continue. The 23-year-old Meerdink had initially been left out of the Netherlands squad before being called up to replace the injured Donyell Malen. He then started against Serbia on Sunday because Brian Brobbey was injured and scored twice, ANP reported. [1]
Pavlidis left AZ for Benfica two years ago. Greece and the Netherlands are due to meet in Thessaloniki in the Nations League on Thursday. [1]
