Inflation in the Netherlands edged up in September 2026, driven chiefly by motor fuel prices, according to figures published by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on 13 October. CBS reported that consumer prices were 3.4% higher than a year earlier, compared with 3.3% in August, and that the September figure matched its preliminary estimate released on 2 October. [1]
CBS reported that motor fuels cost 27.2% more than a year earlier in September, following a 23.4% annual rise in August. It said their price movements were the main reason inflation increased. The average price of diesel reached €2.499 a litre, up from €2.369 in August, while petrol rose from €2.333 to €2.448 a litre. [1]
According to CBS, food prices moved the other way, falling 1.7% compared with September 2025, after a 0.7% annual fall in August. Consumer prices rose 0.1% between August and September; seasonal effects can influence comparisons between consecutive months. [1]
On the separate EU-harmonised measure, CBS figures showed that Dutch inflation rose from 2.8% in August to 3.0% in September. Euro-area inflation climbed from 3.2% to 3.8% on the same measure. [1]
