Thousands of people protested in Madrid over the Spanish government’s handling of the situation in Ceuta, a Spanish territory bordering Morocco. Demonstrators accused the government of failing to protect the border and called for an early election. [1]

Tens of thousands of migrants crossed into Ceuta from Morocco in a short period in late July. Most returned within hours, but several thousand were still in Ceuta when the protest was reported on 26 September, with facilities there scarce. [1]
