The actor said his diagnosis helped him make sense of difficulties he had long wrestled with, after suspicions built over time.
Actor Simon Pegg has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with ADHD, saying it “confirmed a lot of stuff that I’d been wrestling with”. The 56-year-old told the podcast I’m ADHD! No You’re Not that his suspicions had built over time and that he pursued a diagnosis because he “just wanted to know”, according to BBC News. [1]
Pegg, known for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the Mission: Impossible films, said he had previously regarded some of his symptoms as a fault in his character. He recalled fidgeting as a child and wondered whether he had experienced ADHD-related difficulties for longer than he had thought. [1]
He also described bouts of depression since he was 18. Pegg wondered whether therapy and medication over the years had addressed symptoms rather than the reason he felt as he did. [1]
Pegg said his wife had been supportive and made allowances for his forgetfulness and lack of concentration. “It’s just who I am, and it’s just things that I do,” he said. [1]
