The Israeli prime minister says he has instructed the military and Mossad to pursue the overthrow of Iran’s government, reiterating a goal he had already announced before the election.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told supporters in Dimona on Wednesday that toppling Iran’s government was, in his view, the only way to remove the threat from Tehran. He said he had given that instruction to the Israeli military, the Mossad and other security agencies, according to AFP. He was speaking ahead of Israel’s 27 October election. [3]
The statement repeats a goal Netanyahu had made public days earlier. At a briefing on 18 October, he said he had directed all the security agencies to bring down Iran’s government. In an i24NEWS interview on 20 October, he specifically named the military and Mossad. His remarks on Wednesday therefore do not establish that a new order was issued that day. [6] [5]
At the earlier briefing, Netanyahu was pressed on why Israeli campaigns against Iran in 2025 and 2026 had not toppled its government. He argued that the authorities’ suppression of dissent had prevented an uprising. [6]
Netanyahu linked his renewed call to his claim that Iran was again trying to develop nuclear bombs. He gave no timetable or method for bringing down its government. His public statements set out an objective and an instruction he says he gave; they do not establish what measures, if any, the security agencies have taken in response. [3] [1]
