Trump says he is willing to accept midterm results

“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” Trump told The New York Times on Tuesday night, according to Mediaite’s account of the interview. He said he would work with Democrats and added: “We’ll probably work something out.”

Mediaite reported that Democrats were projected to take control of both the House and the Senate as Trump spoke. Projections are not final results; states certify results after counting and any recounts.

After losing the 2020 presidential election, Trump repeatedly claimed without evidence that the result was affected by fraud.

Earlier on Tuesday, before polls had closed across the country, he told CBS News he was prepared to veto Democratic legislation if necessary. He said he expected vetoes could eventually lead to negotiations.
