ABN AMRO has won a legal dispute over its contributions to the EU’s bank-rescue fund, after the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that removing the bank’s 2023 contribution did not threaten Europe’s financial stability.
The case was brought by the bank against the Single Resolution Board (SRB), the EU body responsible for handling failing financial institutions. They have disagreed over how contributions to the fund should be calculated for certain years, according to an ANP report republished by Nieuws.nl.
The Wednesday ruling is the latest in a series of cases brought by banks since the SRB introduced an annual levy in 2016. The report describes the judgment as ending ABN AMRO’s years-long legal dispute over the payments.
