Australia have left Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc out of their squads for the white-ball series against England, resting the fast-bowling trio after a demanding run of Test cricket and ahead of a packed international schedule.
The three played all three Tests in Australia’s recent 2-1 series defeat by South Africa. They will miss the three one-day internationals, which begin in Perth on 13 November. Cummins and Hazlewood are also absent from the five-match Twenty20 series, starting on 21 November; Starc has retired from T20 internationals.
Cummins remains Australia’s ODI captain but has played only one 50-over international since November 2024. Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s T20 captain and Cummins’s frequent deputy, will lead the side in the ODI series.
The schedule ahead includes four home Tests against New Zealand from 9 December, followed by five Tests in India beginning on 21 January and a one-off Test against England in March. Australia could also reach the World Test Championship final in June, before the Ashes series and October’s ODI World Cup.
Mahli Beardman, 21, is named in both white-ball squads and could make his ODI debut. Uncapped Sam Harper and Lachlan Shaw are included for the T20s. Jack Edwards is also selected for both formats, while Nathan Ellis, returning after a side strain, is named for the T20 series only.
