A 10-year-old child and two women, both aged 30, have died after a small boat attempting to cross the English Channel got into difficulty off northern France, French authorities said. The boat was carrying 105 people and had left Blériot Plage beach in Calais on Monday morning. Authorities responded to a distress call. [1]
The French Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea said the three passengers were treated on board before an emergency medical team flown out by helicopter confirmed their deaths. [1]
Passengers later disembarked from a rescue boat at the port of Calais, AFP reported, as cited by the BBC. [1]
