HMS Agamemnon, the Royal Navy’s sixth Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, has arrived at HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane, Scotland. It will undergo sea trials and preparations before joining the operational fleet. [1]
The submarine left BAE Systems’ yard in Barrow the previous week and made its first dive at sea in the Navy’s Inner Hebrides exercise areas on the way to Faslane. The 97-metre (318ft) vessel has a crew of about 100 and is equipped with Tomahawk land-attack missiles and torpedoes. [1]
Sea trials will test Agamemnon’s performance over the coming months. Rear Admiral Andy Perks said he looked forward to its joining the operational fleet in due course. [1]
