The number of Dutch households with wealth of at least €1 million rose by 81,000 in 2024, reaching 547,000 at the start of 2025, according to new figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The increase was mainly driven by higher house prices, the statistics agency said.
The figures include the value of a household’s main home and any mortgage debt. Millionaire households made up 6.6% of all households on 1 January 2025. The data are provisional.
Their median wealth was €1.5 million, compared with €131,000 for households below the millionaire threshold. Two-thirds of millionaire households had wealth of between €1 million and €2 million; 3% had at least €10 million.
The composition of wealth also differed. Business assets and substantial shareholdings accounted for 39% of millionaire households’ assets, while their homes made up 29%. Among non-millionaire households, homes represented nearly 80% of assets, and business assets and shareholdings 3%.
The main earners in millionaire households were older on average: 61, against 52 among other households. Nearly 70% were aged 55 or over, compared with 46% in non-millionaire households.
The share of millionaire households varied sharply by municipality. Bloemendaal had the highest proportion, at 37.7%, followed by Laren at 37.4%. Kerkrade had the lowest, at 1.1%.
