Dutch commercial businesses generated more value per hour worked in 2025, helped by gains in trade and manufacturing, provisional figures show.
Review information is loading.
Labour productivity in the Netherlands’ commercial sector rose by 2.5% in 2025 compared with 2024, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on 7 October. The provisional increase followed a provisional 0.4% decline in 2024. CBS measures productivity here as value added per hour worked. [1]
The sector’s value added rose by 1.7% while total hours worked fell by 0.8%. Trade contributed 1.00 percentage point to the overall productivity increase and manufacturing 0.74 points, the largest positive contributions by industry. Energy supply and information and communication each made a negative contribution of 0.15 points. [1]
CBS attributes 2.4 percentage points of the increase to productivity changes within industries and 0.1 point to a shift in the distribution of hours between them. That shift is separate from the fall in total hours worked. [1]
