The Dutch drone industry now employs more than 3,000 people, up from about 2,300 in 2023, according to research commissioned by industry group Dutch Drone Delta. The researchers say the workforce could exceed 5,100 by 2030 if current growth continues.
The estimate may be higher if the sector secures future contracts from the Ministry of Defence, which were not included in the forecast. The count also excludes employees of organisations that use drones, including the ANWB motoring association and Rijkswaterstaat, the public works and water management agency.
Drone operators make up most of the industry’s workforce. But the researchers say automation and artificial intelligence are making operations more efficient and increasing demand for technicians, software developers and data analysts.
