The Patients’ Federation of the Netherlands warns that higher premiums, a higher excess and planned healthcare cuts could leave more people struggling with costs and avoiding care.

The Patients’ Federation of the Netherlands says rising health insurance premiums, planned healthcare cuts and a higher excess could push more patients into financial difficulty and lead them to avoid care. The organisation made the warning after insurer DSW announced next year’s premium on Wednesday.[1]
The federation says the premium increase is the largest in years. It also points to the higher excess and says the healthcare allowance will not rise. “Many patients can no longer bear this piling-up of healthcare costs,” said Linda Daniels, the federation’s acting director.[1]
Daniels said the planned cuts could force more patients to go without care, with consequences for patients and society. The federation called on politicians to reconsider the cuts.[1]
