ASML will contribute €100 million over 20 years to a future Rijksmuseum branch in Eindhoven, under an agreement with the city. The funding is intended to support the museum once it opens, currently expected between 2032 and 2034.
The chipmaker will pay €5 million a year from the opening date. Eindhoven Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem called ASML’s role as a long-term founding partner good news for the Brainport region. ASML said it hoped the museum would become an internationally recognised institution and a draw for visitors.
The new museum is planned beside the River Dommel, near Eindhoven station, and will display works from the Rijksmuseum collection. Construction is expected to cost €80 million; annual operating costs are estimated at €11 million to €12 million.
