Riot police were deployed for a second consecutive day in Floradorp, Amsterdam-Noord, after groups set fires and threw fireworks and bottles at police, according to a police spokesperson quoted by news agency ANP. Two people were arrested. [1]
The unrest around Sneeuwbalstraat intensified again at about 3pm on Thursday, 15 October, the spokesperson said. Groups, mainly young people, began setting fire to piles of wooden pallets. Officers first tried talking to them, but the groups dispersed, ran off and returned. The disturbances flared again at about 5.30pm; riot police were deployed shortly before 7pm. [1]
The spokesperson warned that throwing objects at officers and residents could have fatal consequences, and urged parents and others close to the young people to speak to them. She said officers had been pelted with fireworks, beer bottles and stones. [1]
