A police officer used a Taser on a parcel courier in Amsterdam’s Runstraat on Thursday after the courier refused to move his van and later resisted arrest, police said. The use of force is now being reviewed by a senior officer.
A police spokesperson said the officer saw no other way to bring the situation under control. “There was more to it than can be seen in the video online,” the spokesperson said, adding that police had also reviewed other footage.
Police said officers must assess which level of force to use and warn people beforehand when circumstances allow. The online video does not make clear whether a warning was given.
The use of the Taser was reported to a senior police officer, who will review it. The courier was given three fines and released.
