Queen Letizia presided over the official opening of Spain’s 2026/27 vocational education year on 25 September at I.E.S. Ribera del Tajo in Talavera de la Reina, in Toledo province. The visit covered classroom training and links between vocational study, workplaces and university education. [1] [2]
The school offers vocational courses in three fields: computing and communications, healthcare, and administration and management. Letizia visited a classroom from each field and spoke with students about their studies. [2]
She also attended a robotics presentation and met students working on robotics and artificial intelligence. [1]
RTVE reported that the queen showed interest in Castilla-La Mancha’s ‘2+3’ pathway, which links higher-level vocational study with a university degree. Regional education minister Amador Pastor said students completing two years of vocational training in administrative management would be able to progress to a degree in Business Administration and Management. Recognition of their earlier study would allow them to complete the degree in three years rather than four. [2]
School director Manuel De Castro told RTVE that a meeting with Letizia included the school community, businesses, a university and hospitals involved in work placements. He said they spent 20–25 minutes discussing vocational education, the school’s approach and its connections with the economy of Talavera de la Reina and the surrounding area. [2]
