Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez expects to return in a few weeks after an operation, following a collision that forced him off on a stretcher during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton. [1]
The 34-year-old Argentina international collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the second half and received treatment for eight minutes before leaving the pitch. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said Martínez had concussion.
Writing on social media on Sunday, Martínez said the operation had gone well and thanked people for their messages. “In a few weeks we'll be back,” he wrote. [1]
Mike Penders, who came on to make his Premier League debut, is expected to start at least Chelsea’s next three matches: league games against Tottenham and Manchester United, and a Carabao Cup tie at Liverpool.
Alonso said Chelsea had “full trust” in the 21-year-old, who joined from Belgian club Genk in 2024 for £17m. [1]
