Anthony Williams has pleaded guilty to 12 counts of wounding with intent and two of attempting to wound, but denies 14 attempted-murder charges. His trial is due to begin next week.
Anthony Williams has admitted 12 counts of wounding with intent over a series of incidents involving a train in Cambridgeshire, as well as two counts of attempting to wound with intent. He still denies 14 counts of attempted murder and is due to stand trial next week. [1]
The 33-year-old entered the pleas at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, appearing by video link from Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire. The charges relate to incidents on a Doncaster-to-London train and in Peterborough and London.
The train was travelling from Peterborough to Huntingdon on 1 November last year when passengers and staff were injured. It made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon after emergency calls were made from on board.
Williams also admitted affray at a Peterborough barber shop and stealing knives from an Asda store in Stevenage, both on 31 October. He pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in public in Peterborough, at Pontoon Dock DLR station in east London and on the train. He also admitted assaulting a police officer and common assault on another train.
The attempted-murder charges he denies include allegations relating to the train, Pontoon Dock and incidents in Peterborough. Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC told the court the guilty pleas did not resolve the indictment and that a trial would go ahead.
The trial is expected to last six weeks and is due to begin next Monday.
