Wijnand Speelman to run without a finish line for 3FM charity appeal

3FM DJ Wijnand Speelman will run without a set finish on 25 November to raise money for the Dutch Burn Foundation through 3FM Serious Request, the broadcaster has announced. He plans to keep running until he can no longer continue, with donations accepted for as long as he is on the course.

Speelman will start at 06:40 at Sportcentrum Papendal in Arnhem. He covered 86km and 75km in charity runs over the past two years, but says this challenge has no planned finish line. He said he had recently spent time at a children’s burns centre in Beverwijk, adding: “I have to suffer for a day; that is nothing compared with the children there, who have to suffer their whole lives.”

Other well-known figures, including content creator Dee van der Zeeuw, are expected to join him. NPO 3FM will also move its presenters and programmes to Papendal that day to cover the event.

The Dutch Burn Foundation hopes to use proceeds from this year’s Serious Request appeal to establish a new children’s burns centre and improve care for young burn patients. The annual fundraiser takes place in the week before Christmas.
