Italian special-effects artist Carlo Rambaldi, whose creations included E.T. and the 1976 King Kong, has been honoured with a posthumous star on Hollywood Boulevard. His daughter, Daniela Rambaldi, unveiled the 2,860th star on Thursday, according to Nieuws.nl. [1]
Rambaldi, who died in 2012, also worked on the effects for *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*, *Alien* and *Dune*. He won three Academy Awards for his work. [1]
The nomination was backed by Italy’s Ministry of Culture and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, whom Nieuws.nl describes as a fan of Rambaldi’s work. Rambaldi would have turned 100 last year. [1]
His effects were once so convincing that Italian director Lucio Fulci was prosecuted over a scene depicting injured dogs. The report says Rambaldi showed the judge that the animals were puppets, after which Fulci was released. [1]
