Álex Márquez will miss the Qatar Grand Prix after undergoing surgery on his right collarbone and left hand in Madrid, with the MotoGP rider planning to return at the Portuguese Grand Prix at the end of November.
The operation went well and without complications, Márquez said on social media, according to Spanish news agency ANP. He is eighth in the world championship standings and will skip Qatar to recover.
The younger brother of championship leader Marc Márquez had continued to feel pain after an emergency operation in May on a right collarbone broken in four places in a crash at the Catalan Grand Prix. He rode with painkillers in recent months.
Despite his physical problems, Márquez took pole position at last weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix and finished third in the main race. Three grands prix remain in the MotoGP season.
