Eurocross says it has already received 247 reports this year involving Dutch travellers injured in scooter crashes abroad — more than the 241 recorded during all of 2025. The travel assistance company is urging holidaymakers to take care, as the busiest period for such reports last year was October to December.
Thailand and Indonesia accounted for about 40 per cent of this year’s reports combined, Eurocross says. It also frequently dealt with cases in Greece, Spain and the Philippines.
The company says travellers can underestimate the power of hire scooters in parts of Asia: “Many rental scooters there have considerably more power than the scooters Dutch people are used to.”
Eurocross says crashes can result from a combination of inexperienced riders, powerful motorbikes and unfamiliar traffic conditions. It warns that medical care may not always be readily available at holiday destinations and that the costs of a hire-scooter accident can run into tens of thousands of euros.
The figures are reports received by Eurocross, rather than a count of all scooter crashes involving Dutch travellers. The company recorded 48 reports from October to December last year.
