Rocco Basilico has rejected a €3.5 billion offer for his 12.5 per cent stake in Delfin, the Italian holding company behind eyewear group EssilorLuxottica, according to people familiar with the matter cited by ANP and Bloomberg. The offer came from his stepbrother, Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio.
Delfin’s listed investments have a market value of more than €40 billion, the report said. EssilorLuxottica owns Ray-Ban, Oakley and Persol, as well as the Pearle Opticians chain.
The proposed purchase is the latest attempt by Leonardo Maria to increase his stake in the family holding company. He is the son of EssilorLuxottica founder Leonardo Del Vecchio. Earlier this year, he left the eyewear group after an unsuccessful attempt to buy out two of Del Vecchio’s other children.
