Gillian Anderson says familiar faces in the front row can be distracting, but has urged people not to criticise the women involved.
Gillian Anderson has explained why she asked a group of regular theatregoers not to sit in the front row at a London performance of *Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?*. Nieuws.nl reports that, in a video of the exchange, Anderson says seeing the same people there repeatedly distracts her. The outlet says the fans can be heard apologising. [1]
Responding on X on Monday, Anderson said she had known the women in the video for more than 20 years and asked people not to speak negatively about them. She said performers can see the front row in an intimate theatre and may sometimes find that distracting. She added that nothing else was wrong and thanked the visitors for coming. [1]
Anderson is appearing alongside Billy Crudup at London’s Soho Place Theatre. Nieuws.nl says the production is scheduled to run until mid-December. [1]
