A ruling in Utrecht clears the way for the Dutch agriculture ministry to disclose farm-business data sought by an environmental organisation.

A court in Utrecht has ruled that the Dutch agriculture ministry may make farm-business data public despite a legal challenge by farming organisations including LTO and POV. The court found that the interest in disclosure outweighed concerns including farmers’ privacy. It also found that the organisations had not sufficiently shown that farmers would suffer serious harm if the data were released, ANP reported. [1]
Environmental organisation MOB asked the minister in 2023 for information about farmers across the country, including animal numbers, barn details and crops grown. The ministry initially resisted the request, but then-minister Femke Wiersma agreed to disclosure in February. Farming organisations then took the matter to court. [1]
ANP said the decision was in line with a Council of State ruling in a separate proceeding in 2025. [1]
