OpenAI will not make GPT-6.1 Astra available to users in early October as planned. The Wall Street Journal first reported safety concerns about the model, Nieuws.nl reported. [1]
In comments to CNBC relayed by Nieuws.nl, OpenAI safety staff member Saachi Jain said the model did not fully meet requirements for staying within its boundaries and permissions. Jain also cited shortcomings in how it tells users what work it has carried out. [1]
The delay concerns GPT-6.1 Astra, not GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI launched earlier in September. The earlier model offers some paying ChatGPT users an AI agent that can carry out extensive tasks independently. The timing of the GPT-6.1 release remains unclear. [1]
