Deep Purple have cancelled two German concerts after singer Ian Gillan was admitted to hospital following what the band described as a “medical emergency”. The cause has not been disclosed.
The 81-year-old singer was due to perform with the band in Leipzig on Saturday and Hamburg on Sunday. Deep Purple announced the cancellations on social media, Nieuws.nl reported on 31 October.
Gillan’s hospitalisation comes as the band tours internationally. It is scheduled to play Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on 9 November, but the report did not say whether that concert would be affected. Nieuws.nl also noted that Gillan’s eyesight had been substantially impaired, a condition reported last year.
