The Dutch region plans to assess people’s work experience while they are still in asylum reception, before they are allocated municipal housing.
An experiment is starting in South Limburg to help people granted asylum residence permits move sooner into work, education and civic integration, ANP reports. The plan is to assess their work experience and how it fits the labour market while they are still in an asylum-seeker centre, rather than waiting until a municipality allocates them housing. [1]
Regional authorities say they want to prevent people from waiting unnecessarily long before building a life in the Netherlands. King’s Commissioner Emile Roemer says language lessons and civic integration should be tailored to people’s skills and employment prospects. [1]
Roemer expects tackling work, education and integration at the same time to help people settle sooner and free space in asylum reception. [1]
