A fire beneath Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium forced a full evacuation before crews brought it under control overnight.
Review information is loading.
The fire at Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium was brought under control overnight from Thursday to Friday, according to the regional safety authority, as reported by Dutch news agency ANP. Emergency crews were scaling down their response and leaving in stages. [1]
The fire began on Thursday evening in a crawl space in the car park beneath the stadium and spread into a cavity wall. The entire stadium, including businesses in the building, was evacuated. Firefighters used foam and closed doors to restrict the oxygen supply, but the source of the fire was difficult to reach, prolonging the operation.
The blaze produced substantial smoke, although firefighters detected no elevated concentrations of harmful substances in the surrounding area, ANP reported. People with cars in the garage were advised to ask its owner when they could collect their vehicles. The cause of the fire was not established in the report.
