NEC head coach Dick Schreuder hopes the club’s supporters will back Dušan Tadić and his team when they face Levski Sofia in the Europa League on Thursday. Schreuder made the appeal at a press conference a day before the match, responding to questions about Tadić’s comments in an interview with NU.nl that Ajax had different standards from NEC. [1]
Some NEC fans reacted badly to Tadić’s remarks, and he could face criticism during the match. Teammate Tjaronn Chery defended him, saying he did not understand the fuss. Chery said Tadić had joined NEC to raise the team’s level and that, given the clubs where he had played, it was understandable that he wanted a higher standard. [1]
NEC are set to play Europa League football at their Goffert stadium for the first time in 17 years. Levski Sofia lead Bulgaria’s Parva Liga and are coached by Julio Velázquez, formerly of Fortuna Sittard. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 on Thursday. [1]
