England have been eliminated from the one-day international tri-series in Pakistan after Sri Lanka beat the hosts by eight wickets in Lahore on Tuesday, turning England’s final match into a dead rubber.
Pakistan were bowled out for 110 in 25.2 overs, with Sri Lanka left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka taking 5-34. Kamindu Mendis made 62 not out as Sri Lanka reached 114-2 in 18.1 overs.
England had lost all three of their matches and needed Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka to keep alive their chance of reaching Saturday’s final. Instead, Sri Lanka’s win means Thursday’s meeting between the sides has no bearing on the final.
The exit comes after a difficult campaign for Harry Brook’s team. They failed to chase 303 against Pakistan, then lost to Sri Lanka despite scoring 430, before a record last-wicket stand gave Pakistan a one-wicket win. England’s defeat by Pakistan followed two earlier losses in the tournament.
The result interrupts a stronger run in one-day cricket: England had won away in Sri Lanka and beaten India and Sri Lanka at home in 2026. They are due to travel to Australia after the Pakistan series for three one-day internationals and five T20 matches, starting on 13 November.
