Police found nothing suspicious in an overnight search after a large hole appeared in Leipzig Airport’s perimeter fence, but the northern runway remained closed as checks continued.

Police searched Leipzig Airport after a large hole was found in its perimeter fence, prompting the closure of a runway. The overnight search found nothing suspicious, police said, but checks were due to continue on Sunday and the northern runway remained closed to air traffic, according to ANP [1].
The airport said a vehicle appeared to have driven through the fence. Police searched for people, objects or vehicles that did not belong there [1].
The incident comes after a suspected drone attack at the airport in August. A drone carrying explosives was found near aircraft destined for Ukraine; another aircraft was suspected of colliding with a second drone while taking off, and a third drone was found nearby. Germany’s government described the incidents as a Russian hybrid attack. Leipzig Airport is also used for weapons deliveries to Ukraine [1].
