Xandra Velzeboer won the women’s 500 metres at the World Tour short-track event in Montreal, beating Canadian skaters Danaé Blais and Courtney Sarault to take her second consecutive victory over the distance on the circuit.
Velzeboer was third after the start, but moved into the lead with a well-timed manoeuvre and held on to win, ANP reported via Nieuws.nl. Blais finished second, just ahead of Sarault.
The Dutch skater is the reigning Olympic champion in the 500m and 1,000m and world champion in the 500m. She also won the 500m at the World Tour’s opening event in Vancouver last week, her first victory over the distance in the series. Her win in Vancouver preceded the Montreal race.
