CDA leader Henri Bontenbal says he will keep seeking support for the Dutch government’s tax plan, warning that sending it to the Senate without a majority would be “irresponsible”.
Speaking at a party congress in Almere, Bontenbal said he hoped to secure broad backing in the House of Representatives over the coming days. Several opposition parties have already said they will not support the plan, Nieuws.nl reported.
Bontenbal described the minority government as an opportunity to foster a more co-operative political culture. He singled out 50PLUS and the Christian Union as constructive in talks with the cabinet, and said he would consider proposals from other parties, including PRO, Volt, JA21, the SGP and BBB.
Nieuws.nl reported that those parties had already put forward proposals in discussions with the cabinet.
