Amsterdam festival DGTL plans to keep using cycling companions to help visitors who feel unsafe get home at night, after visitors said they valued the service. The festival has not said how many people use it.
Nikki Schuurs, DGTL’s social-safety lead, said the service was intended mainly for visitors who would otherwise have to travel home alone and did not feel comfortable doing so. She said the festival did not judge its value by the number of users: helping one person get home more safely was enough.
At the NDSM wharf, two cycling companions travel between the festival site and the ferry at night. They are visible to visitors and can offer help along the way. DGTL sends them out in pairs so they do not have to cycle alone either.
