Retail experts estimate that Albert Heijn could lose up to €200 million in sales after a cyberattack disrupted online orders and supermarket supplies.
Review information is loading.
Retail experts estimate that a cyberattack disrupting Albert Heijn for about a week and a half could cost the Dutch supermarket chain up to €200 million in lost sales. The estimates come as the company has cancelled online orders through Thursday and stores have experienced empty shelves because of supply problems. [1]
Retail expert Tom Kikkert puts the potential loss at €100 million to €200 million. He says Albert Heijn could recoup some of it by proactively compensating customers, including for personalised discounts they missed during the disruption. [1]
Laurens Sloot, a professor of retail entrepreneurship at the University of Groningen, estimates lost sales at about €130 million: €60 million online and €70 million in stores. The experts cited by ANP expect the incident to have little effect on the chain’s reputation. [1]
